| dc.description | Este artigo analisa o banditismo rural como um fenômeno social de longa duração no país, compreendendo o pistoleirismo como parte integrante da cultura política e das relações de poder presentes no meio rural, comungando com a permanência de valores coloniais da valentia, da honra e das formas de vingança. O aporte teórico leva em consideração um complexo estudo a partir de seus principais arregimentadores: a sociologia e a história. Neste sentido, a busca pela compreensão do fenômeno social é uma tentativa em se compreender melhor o tema, pouco abordado pela historiografia brasileira. Palavras–chave: banditismo; ruralismo; violência; historiografia. This article analyzes the rural banditism as a long-lasting social phenomenon in the country, comprising the figure of the “hitman” as part of a political culture of the power relationships in the rural milieu, in line with the permanence of colonial values such as bravery, honor, and several forms of vengeance. The theoretical foundation takes into account a complex study stemming from those fields responsible for regimenting this issue, namely sociology and history. In this sense, the search for the understanding of this social phenomenon is an attempt to better apprehend this theme, which has not received too much attention from the Brazilian historiography scholars so far.
