| dc.description | Este artigo baseia-se em uma pesquisa de campo realizada em 12 escolas publicas (seis estaduais e seis municipais) do município do Recife. No total, foram entrevistados 244 alunos (170 matriculados no ensino fundamental e 74 no ensino médio), 24 professores e 12 diretores. Os questionários continham algumas perguntas relativas ao perfil individual dos entrevistados e um conjunto de perguntas sobre a ocorrência de atos violentos nas escolas, a serem respondidas pelos alunos, professores e diretores. Os resultados obtidos atestaram a existência de ações violentas nas escolas e que elas afetavam negativamente o aprendizado dos alunos. This paper is based on a field research conducted in 12 public schools (six belonging to the state of Pernambuco's educational system and six to the municipality) of Recife. In total, 244 students (170 enrolled in elementary and 74 in secondary courses), 24 teachers and 12 school directors were interviewed. The questionnaires contained some questions related to the individual profile of the interviewees and also a set of questions about the occurrence of violent acts in the schools, to be answered by the students, teachers and directors. The results testified the existence of violent actions in the schools and that they affected negatively the learning standards of the students.
