| dc.description | As transições do trabalho escravo para o livre e da Monarquia para a República são exaustivamente analisadas por Gilberto Freyre na obra Ordem e progresso. No âmbito deste artigo, no entanto, dar-se-á ênfase, especialmente, àquela segunda. A sua discussão sobre a desintegração, a ordenação e a conservação que se estabeleceu neste processo de mudança social, o qual perpassou as três últimas décadas do século XIX e as duas primeiras do seguinte, oferece todos os elementos para compreender a construção uma reflexão acerca das modificações sociais ancoradas no passado e definidoras tanto do presente quanto do envelhecimento do futuro. The transitions from slavery to free labor and from the monarchy to the republican system are exhaustively analyzed by Gilberto Freyre in the work Ordem e progresso. In this paper, the focus will be especially on the republican regime. Freyre’s discussion about the disintegration, the ordering, and the conservation established in this process of social change, which happened in the three last decades of the 19th century and the two first decades of the following century, offer all the elements for the understanding of the construction of a system of ideas and values about the social modifications which contribute to the definition of both the present and the aging of the future.
