This article analyzes some of the issues about racist ideologies in Latin America, looking at the evolution of this research theme in the social sciences. It also explains the delay of the studies about racism in this region, since this problem did not obtain a certain recognition until the two last decades of the 20th century. Finally, the paper sheds light on the principal practices of racism and discrimination against indigenous and black peoples, which originated during the domination processes of the Colonial period.
