CINEMA AUDIENCES IN MEXICO. This paper reviews the research on cinema audiences and theaters in Mexico, exploring the differences amongst the audiences in terms of gender, social background, regions or their relationship with national and foreign films. The anal- ysis arises in the context of the restructuring of the audiovisual market and of the cultural habits, consid- ering that the movies are not only screened in theaters, neither the audiences relate exclusively with one media. It is examined also the impact of the audience research on the design and evaluation of the cultural policies.
