dc.description Farewell speech pronounced by Pablo Mari–ez, Embassador of the Dominican Republic in Mexico, at the ceremony to mark the conclusion of his term in office (1997-2000), in which he was also awarded the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle: Ribbon. This speech makes reference to the diplomatic relations between the two countries over the past 112 years, and to the rich and ancient cultural tradition that bonds them. The Dominican Republic has become MexicoÕs main commercial partner in the Caribbean. During these three years of diplomatic mission there were two Visits of State; an increase in investment and co-investment; three Dominican profesorial chairs were established in three universities; several towns were bonded through the twin town programme; and there was a strong Dominican cultural presence in f tes, festivales and congresses.
