This paper assesses whether economic growth is related to the increased migration of people. To achieve this, a period spanning twenty years 1990-2010 is taken, dividing the country into four regions, each one of these in three sectors, in which its contained a part of the 59 metropolitan areas defined in 2012. The results indicate that the rela-tionship is presented with greater intensity, in those areas where is detected a further growth belongs to the service sector in the southeastern region.Este trabajo, evalúa si el crecimiento económico se relaciona con el incremento de la migración de personas. Para lograrlo, se toma un periodo que abarca veinte años, de1990 a 2010 en dos lapsos, 1990-2000 y 2000-2010. Se divide al país en cuatro re-giones y cada una de ellas se analiza a partir de tres sectores económicos, en donde se encuentran contenidas además las 59 zonas metropolitanas definidas en el año 2012. Los resultados indican que la relación se presenta con mayor intensidad, en aquellas zonas donde se detecta un mayor crecimiento en el sector servicios, perteneciente al sureste del país.
