This work presents the results of a multidisciplinary research focused on the contextual study of the grave goods of six pre-Hispanic cemeteries of the San Pedro de Atacama oasis, Antofagasta Region, Chile. The main objective was to deepen the social and ritual aspects of the prehispanic religious system in Atacama (500-1500 AD), based on the archaeological evidence of the hallucinogenic paraphernalia to elucidate the identity of the individuals carrying it and verify the hypothesis about their status as members of the Atacamenian elite. Databases with the information transcribed from the Le Paige Notes for these cemeteries served as a basic instrument; from them, the statistical analysis was structured according to artifact categories that allowed us to establish correlations between the different components of the mortuary offerings, comparing those that included elements of the psychotropic equipment with those that lacked them. Thus, differences emerged in the management of certain goods that made up the “circle of materializing objects” of the Atacamenian elite. The foregoing raises the existence of different artisan specializations between ayllus and status diferences within this society, as well as the control of interregional exchange circuits by said elite.Este trabajo entrega parte de los resultados de una investigación multidisciplinaria centrada en el estudio contextual de los ajuares funerarios de seis cementerios prehispánicos de los oasis de San Pedro de Atacama, región de Antofagasta, Chile. El objetivo central fue profundizar en los aspectos sociales y rituales del sistema religioso prehispánico en Atacama (500-1500 DC), tomando como base las evidencias arqueológicas de la parafernalia alucinógena para dilucidar la identidad de los individuos que la poseían, y verificar la hipótesis acerca de su condición de integrantes de la élite atacameña. Bases de datos con la información transcrita desde las Notas de Le Paige para dichos cementerios sirvieron como instrumento básico para el análisis estadístico de las diversas categorías artefactuales; ello permitió establecer correlaciones entre los diferentes componentes de las ofrendas mortuorias, comparando aquellos que incluían elementos del equipo sicotrópico con los que carecían de ellos. De esta forma, surgieron diferencias en el manejo de determinados bienes que integran el círculo de objetos “materializadores” de la élite atacameña. Lo anterior plantea la existencia de diferentes especializaciones artesanales entre ayllus y diferencias de estatus al interior de esta sociedad, así como el control de los circuitos de intercambio interregional por parte de dicha élite.
