dc.description	The protagonists of the Pacific War that left written record of their experiences between 1879 and 1884, made a detailed account of what they observed during their journey to the North. An important part of his chronicles and personal documents were devoted to make an ethnography with a speech and a rhetoric in nationalist key, which also acquired racist features. There, they tried to differentiate themselves from their enemies especially those who came from mixed race low class people, cholos, and from the Andean Indians, mostly Aymara and Quechua cultures. With that goal, and from the subjectivity of their point of view, they referred to the general characteristics of their enemies underlining its mixed race and indigenous ethnic ancestry, personality, behavior in the battlefield, physical appearance, culture and customs. This article is frand in the studies of war and society, and analiyzes the phenomenom with conceptual tools from historiography, ethnohistory and ethnography.	en-US
dc.description	Los protagonistas de la Guerra del Pacífico que dejaron registro escrito de sus experiencias vividas entre 1879 y 1884 realizaron una detallada narración de lo que observaron durante su periplo al norte. Parte importante de sus crónicas y documentos personales, las dedicaron a realizar una etnografía con un discurso y retórica en marcada clave nacionalista, que adquirió también rasgos racistas. Allí, intentaron diferenciarse de sus enemigos, especialmente de aquellos que provenían del bajo pueblo mestizo, los cholos, y de los indígenas andinos provenientes en su mayoría de las culturas aymara y quechua. Con ese objetivo, y desde la subjetividad de su punto de vista, se refirieron a las características generales de sus enemigos subrayando su ascendencia étnica mestiza e indígena, personalidad, comportamiento en el campo de batalla, apariencia física, cultura y costumbres. Este artículo se enmarca en los estudios de guerra y sociedad, y analiza el fenómeno con herramientas conceptuales provenientes de la historiografía, etnohistoria y la etnografía.	es-ES
