| dc.description | O dano de pragas às essências florestais merece uma relevante atenção, pois pode causar diversos prejuízos na madeira, galhos, folhas e sementes de diversas espécies, portanto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi registrar e caracterizar, de maneira inédita, conforme levantamento bibliográfico, a ocorrência de Trigona spinipes, em árvores de bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella); identificar o local da árvore com maior ocorrência e relacionar a sua incidência com os elementos meteorológicos. O estudo foi realizado durante os meses de setembro e outubro de 2009, onde foi avaliada a ocorrência do inseto ao longo dos galhos, caule e copa, ação de dano, ritmos de atividades, horário e condições favoráveis para a maior incidência na planta. O inseto atacou 65,8% das árvores existentes na área experimental e provocou um índice de mortalidade de 50%. O período de maior movimentação da abelha foi observado entre 12h00min e 14h00min, sob condições de alta temperatura média (20,7 °C) e radiação solar (2253,96 kj m²). De acordo com a ocorrência, a bracatinga é altamente susceptível ao ataque de Trigona spinipes. Os danos provocados por este inseto deixam a planta debilitada e causam alto índice de mortalidade. A movimentação das abelhas apresentou correlação significativa com todos os elementos meteorológicos estudados.
