Este artigo discute a paisagem na geografia desde as abordagens organicistas, positivistas do século XIX, até as abordagens funcionalistas e culturais a partir dos anos sessenta, mostrando como esse conceito evoluiu através das diversas abordagens geográficas e qual idéia sobre a paisagem permeia nos dias de hoje. Demonstra-se que as concepções modernas de paisagem têm incorporado novas abordagens, tentando conciliar interesses sociais e ecológicos numa visão do desenvolvimento sustentável, modificando assim antigas visões utilitárias e descritivas do conceito de paisagem.Trajectories of the concept of landscape in geographyAbstractThis essay analyses the landscape discussing the main geographical conceptions of landscape, since the initial organic and positivist ideas of the 19th century up to the functional and cultural approaches of landscape, showing how this conception has developed down the ages into the geography s approach and how it s conceived nowadays. It could be shown throughout this text that during the nineties − the landscape conceptions have shifted to a new approach, which includes ecological, social and individual particular interests, combined in the vision of sustainable development and, thus, abolishing the predominant utilitarian aspect of the older landscapes concepts.
