Abstract: the present work aims to make some considerations in order to rethink the process of thingification[1] of the man initiated in the modern era and its resonances for education, a process that sought to discredit the metaphysical philosophy and to include in the field of mythical interpretations any explanation of reality that did not legitimize the presuppositions of the modern positivist method. Adorno and Horkheimer in "Dialectic of Enlightenment" sought to go this route and exposed the results of the barbarity of the process. Is the modern scientific method and the positivist assumptions infallible? We propose to dialogue with these themes in order to rescue the critics of these thinkers about the process of organization of modern society and its values, which made possible a historical moment of dehumanization of man to the detriment of selfishness, greed and power. The education in this context was directed to attend to the interests of the managers of the social imaginary, in order to reinforce the assumptions of infallible truth that legitimized the totalizing discourses. After rescue the critics of the authors, we will advance a little to postmodernity and discuss the resonances of such assumptions in the current paradigm, which reinforce the criticism woven by Adorno and Horkheimer and demonstrate that the infallibility of the sciences lacks sustainability itself . In this way we will try to portray some concepts about this process and the consequences in the way we operate the knowledge in the contemporary. Recebido: 23/03/2019 Aceito: 01/05/2019Resumo: o presente trabalho objetiva tecer algumas considerações no intuito de repensar o processo de coisificação do homem iniciado na época moderna e suas ressonâncias para educação, processo que buscou descreditar a filosofia metafísica e arrolar no campo das interpretações míticas qualquer explicação da realidade que não legitimasse os pressupostos do domínio da técnica do método positivista moderno.  Adorno e Horkheimer em “A Dialética do Esclarecimento” buscaram percorrer esse percurso e expuseram os resultados da barbárie do processo. O método científico moderno e os pressupostos positivistas são infalíveis? Propomo-nos a dialogar com tais temáticas na intenção de resgatar as críticas desses pensadores sobre o processo de organização da sociedade moderna e seus valores, que possibilitaram um momento histórico de desumanização do homem em detrimento da cobiça, da ganância e do poder. A educação nesse contexto foi direcionada para atender aos interesses dos gestores do imaginário social, no intuito de reforçar os pressupostos de verdade infalível que legitimaram os discursos  totalizantes. Após resgatar a crítica dos autores, iremos avançar um pouco para a pós-modernidade e discutir as ressonâncias de tais pressupostos no paradigma atual, que reforçam a crítica tecida por Adorno e Horkheimer e demonstram que a infalibilidade das ciências carece, ela própria, de sustentabilidade.    Nesse percurso buscaremos retratar alguns conceitos sobre esse processo e as consequências no modo como operamos o conhecimento no contemporâneo.
