This article addresses the subject of the expansion of higher education in Brazil in the context of the governments of the Workers' Party. Educational policies are analyzed in order to show the limits and the possibilities that the expansion of college education presents to the working classes, whose objectives of access to knowledge and emancipation do not agree with the objectives of the economic and social context aligned with international economic interests The laws highlight the social contradictions of a deeply unequal society and, in the correlation of forces, the private sector is gradually advancing in defense of its interests. The expansion expresses many possibilities and, at the same time, the limits imposed by the determinations of international funds. O presente artigo aborda o tema da expansão do ensino superior no Brasil no contexto dos governos do Partido dos Trabalhadores. As políticas educacionais são analisadas a fim de mostrar os limites e as possibilidades que a expansão do ensino superior apresentam para as classes trabalhadoras, cujos objetivos de acesso ao conhecimento e de emancipação não concordam com os objetivos do contexto econômico e social alinhado com interesses econômicos internacionais. As leis evidenciam as contradições sociais de uma sociedade profundamente desigual e, na correlação de forças, o setor privado avança gradativamente na defesa de seus interesses. A expansão expressa muitas possibilidades e, ao mesmo tempo, os limites impostos pelas determinações dos fundos internacionais.
