Actualmente se puede ver un gran impacto de las nuevas tecnologías de la comunicación y cómo esto ha revolucionado el consumo de medios en la vida cotidiana de las personas, sobretodo en un público joven, como son los escolares. La presente investigación se ha orientado a comprender el comportamiento frente a la navegación de Internet, determinando la frecuencia de conexión a Internet, el tipo de contenidos más consumidos y las redes sociales que más emplean los alumnos de quinto de secundaria de los colegios públicos de la región Piura, 2015. Para lo cual se utilizó el método cuantitativo y la técnica de encuesta, aplicada a una muestra de 465 estudiantes, de un total de 19 258, todos matriculados en colegios nacionales en el año académico 2015. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes consideran Internet como una herramienta indispensable y necesaria en su vida, razón por la cual se conectan casi a diario, mayormente desde su celular, siendo Facebook su red social preferida y más utilizada, y los contenidos tecnológicos junto con las series y películas, los más consumidos.
