| dc.description | The crises in Argentine winemaking during the first decades of the 20th century exposed its vulnerability, resulting from specialization in the cultivation of grape varieties for winemaking, susceptibility to pests and climatic contingencies, and a rigid supply that could not adapt to inelastic demand. These circumstances led to appraisals and a broad debate about the promotion of other production industries. The goal of this article is to describe the strengthening of diversification projects in Mendoza to com¬plement winegrowing (the central activity) and offset the adverse effects of chronic raw material surpluses. This led to the emergence of new industries during the 1920s and their consolidation, thanks to the impetus provided by the domestic market, in the 1930s. This process was ultimately driven by fruit production, based on state promotion and regulation and the arrival of extra-regional (wholesale merchants) and foreign agents. | en-US |
| dc.description | Durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX, las crisis de la vitivinicultura argentina evidenciaron su carácter vulnerable, dado por la especialización en el cultivo de variedades para elaborar de vinos, la propensión a las plagas y contingencias climáticas y una oferta rígida que no podía adaptarse a una demanda inelástica. Esas coyunturas propiciaron la elaboración de diagnósticos y un amplio debate sobre el impulso de otros sectores productivos. El objetivo de este artículo es demostrar el fortalecimiento de proyectos diversificadores en Mendoza como un complemento de la vitivinicultura (actividad central) para matizar los efectos adversos originados en la producción de materia prima crónicamente excedentaria. Se verifica, así, el surgimiento de nuevos sectores durante la década de 1920 y su potenciación a partir de un contexto de impulso al mercado interno en la década de 1930. Este proceso estuvo motorizado, finalmente, por la fruticultura a partir del fomento y regulación estatales y la llegada de agentes extrarregionales (comerciantes mayoristas) y foráneos. | es-ES |
