| dc.description | The economy has put aside the quest to understand the subjective welfare of man. With the aim of recovering part of the ground the economy has lost for so many years, this research tries a response to issues about the determinants of subjective well-being using economic tools. In particular, it is desired to know to what extent the objective variables that are typically used to measure the performance of a society are really a proxy for the well-being of the population. In this sense, the paper also seeks to establish possible differences in the welfare scheme between Socioeconomic Levels (NSE). The central hypothesis is that, contrary to what it is usually assumed, improvements in objective variables (salary, employment, inflation, etc.) report no significant impact on the level of well-being of the population of Lima Metropolitana. These impacts, however, tend to be higher as socioeconomic conditions worsen.The work has two approaches. First, it uses an econometric approach using amodel based on information obtained between 1994 and 2008 about level of satisfaction of the citizens. Secondly, focus group dynamics take place segmented by socioeconomic status in order to obtain a more qualitative approach to the determinants of welfare. Among its key findings, the paper shows that less than one third of subjective well-being in Lima is explained bythe objective variables evaluated. For most NSE, real wages, prices and performance of institutions are the most important variables in their wellbeing, but nevertheless, the impact of changes on these variables decrease as socioeconomic conditions improve. | en-US |
| dc.description | Los economistas han renunciado a la búsqueda por entender el bienestar subjetivo del hombre. Con el objetivo de recuperar el terreno perdido de la economía durante tantos años, el presente trabajo de investigación ensaya una respuesta a las interrogantes acerca de los determinantes del bienestar subjetivo utilizando herramientas propias de la Economía. En particular, se desea conocer en qué medida las variables objetivas que se suele usar para medir el desempeño de una sociedad son realmente una proxy del bienestar percibido por la población. Asimismo, el presente trabajo busca establecer las posibles diferencias en el esquema de bienestar que pudiesen aparecer entre distintos NSE. La hipótesis central del trabajo es que, de manera contraria a lo que se piensa normalmente, mejoras en las variables objetivas de desarrollo (sueldo, empleo, inflación, etcétera) no reportan impactos significativos en el nivel de bienestar de la población de la ciudad de Lima Metropolitana. Estos impactos, sin embargo, deben ser mayores a medida que los NSE presentan mayores carencias.El trabajo cuenta con dos aproximaciones. En primer lugar, se intenta un ejercicio de modelación econométrica que utiliza como base la información de encuestas representativas realizadas a la población entre 1994 y 2008 sobre su nivel de satisfacción personal. En segundo lugar, se realizan dinámicas de grupos focales segmentados por nivel socioeconómico con la finalidad de obtener una aproximación de corte más cualitativo a los determinantes del bienestar. Entre las principales conclusiones se encuentra que menos de un tercio del bienestar subjetivo en Lima Metropolitana es explicado por las variables objetivas evaluadas. De la misma manera, se halla que para la mayoría de NSE el sueldo real, el nivel de precios y el desempeño de las instituciones son las variables más relevantes en su bienestar; pero que, sin embargo, el impacto de las mismas de crece a medida que las condiciones socioeconómicas mejoran. | es-ES |
