| dc.description | One of the debates in the field of social sciences in Peru refers to the characteristics or nature of the ruling class. Today, despite the criticism, the use of the term "oligarchy" is the most common. Two recent publications persist in using that term, and have reintroduced an old argument in the current debate. Sociologist Henry Pease (1977) notes that the State "was directly controlled by a closed oligarchy where agricultural exporters had hegemony. | dc.description | Uno de los debates en el campo de las ciencias sociales en el Perú se refiere a las características o naturaleza de la clase dominante. Hoy, a pesar de las críticas, la utilización del concepto "oligarquía" es lo más frecuente. Dos recientes publicaciones persisten en la utilización de ese término, y han reintroducido una vieja discusión en el debate actual. El sociólogo Henry Pease (1977) señala que el Estado "fue controlado directamente por una oligarquía cerrada donde los agroexportadores tenían hegemonía.
