dc.description	This article considers some modes of activation and operationalization of the idea of social participation in the field of intangible cultural heritage. It regards the newest proposal of operating participation established by the UNESCO Convention on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage and the experience of its implementation in Brazil. By analyzing how the issue of participation was developed through dialogue between the international and national levels, the paper also shows how the emergence of categories of social actors such as “communities” and “bearers” has been consolidated within the mentioned intangible cultural policies. dc.description	O artigo considera os modos de ativação e operacionalização da ideia de participação social a partir do campo do patrimônio cultural imaterial, tendo em vista a sua mais recente proposição de uso por meio da Convenção da UNESCO sobre a Salvaguarda do Patrimônio Cultural Imaterial e da experiência de sua implementação no Brasil. Ao analisar como a questão da participação se estabeleceu por meio do diálogo entre as instâncias internacional e nacional, o trabalho também aponta como se consolidou a emergência de categorias de atores sociais como “comunidades” e “detentores” dentro das mencionadas políticas de patrimônio cultural imaterial.
