| dc.description | The publication of J. G. A. Pocock’s The Machiavellian Moment: Florentine Political Thought and the Atlantic Tradition in 1975 is framed in the rehabilitation of republican thought that, during the past decades, has had an impact on History (of ideas and processes) and Political Philosophy. This revival was inaugurated by the English-speaking and French academy, and then expanded to other places. The aim of this article is to analyze the senses of the “Machiavellian moment” since its formulation by Pocock, breaking down its meanings, exemplifying its uses and reconsidering some of the main critiques it has received. Although History and Political Philosophy have critically accepted the legacy of the neo-republican debate and have identified the potentialities and weaknesses of the “Machiavellian moment” as an analytical category, Political Theory has remained on the sidelines of this debate. Here lies the relevance of our asking to what extent the “Machiavellian moment” is indeed a heuristic tool that contributes to the understanding of the political and of politics both in their repetition and contingency. | en-US |
| dc.description | La publicación del libro The Machiavellian Moment: Florentine Political Thought and the Atlantic Republican Tradition de J. G. A. Pocock en 1975 se enmarca en la revalorización del republicanismo que en las últimas décadas impactó en la Historia (de las ideas y los procesos) y la Filosofía Política. Esta recuperación del republicanismo comenzó en la academia anglosajona y francesa, para proyectarse luego hacia otras latitudes. El presente artículo se propone analizar los sentidos del “momento maquiaveliano” a partir de su formulación en la obra de J. G. A. Pocock, desagregando sus acepciones, ejemplificando sus usos y poniendo en consideración algunas de las principales críticas que ha recibido. Si bien la Historiografía y la Filosofía Política han receptado críticamente el legado del debate neo-republicano e identificado las potencialidades y dificultades del “momento maquiaveliano” como categoría analítica, la Teoría Política ha quedado al margen de esta problematización. Por ello, resulta pertinente indagar hasta qué punto el “momento maquiaveliano” es una herramienta heurística que contribuye a la comprensión de lo político y la política tanto en su persistencia como en su contingencia. | es-ES |
