dc.description	This article traces concepts of emotions and modernity among Urdu speakers in North India between the 1870s and the 1920s. The first section focuses on feelings towards modernity, both with regard to the present and expectations towards the future and looks at the way emotions –shame, pride, hope, and despair, among others– were integrated into the semantic net of “modernity”. The second section develops a history of emotion concepts and shows how strong passions, seen as beyond the control of the will, gained an increasing importance. The conclusion offers suggestions on the possible theoretical and methodological implications arising from bringing together emotions and the conceptual history.	en-US
dc.description	Este artículo rastrea conceptos de emociones y modernidad entre los hablantes de urdu en el norte de India entre las décadas de 1870 y 1920. La primera sección se centra en los sentimientos hacia la modernidad, tanto con respecto al presente como en las expectativas frente al futuro, y analiza la forma en que las emociones –vergüenza, orgullo, esperanza y desesperación, entre otras– se integraron en la red semántica de la “modernidad”. La segunda sección desarrolla una historia de conceptos de las emociones y expone cómo las pasiones fuertes, consideradas fuera del control de la voluntad, cobraron cada vez más importancia. La conclusión ofrece sugerencias sobre las posibles implicaciones teóricas y metodológicas derivadas de reunir las emociones y la historia conceptual.	es-ES
