| dc.description | The article provides reflection about the relationships between the university as an institution and society. Analysis has been based on the debate about three ways of regarding such relationships: the concepts of belonging, performance and the social use of knowledge. The first part of the article considers two concepts concerning the university as an institution, regarding how this has been assumed in its relationships with its setting, with the society in which it is immersed. Social pertinence/belonging and performance is then dealt with and their respective implications. The article rounds offby considering the concept of social use and highlights therelationship between the social appropriation of knowledge and the idea of social emancipation. | en |
| dc.description | El artículo plantea una reflexión respecto a las relaciones entre la universidad como institución y la sociedad. El eje del análisis lo constituye el debate en torno a tres formas de concebir estas relaciones: a partir del concepto de pertinencia, rendimiento y usos sociales del conocimiento. El artículo consta de tres apartados. En el primero se consideran dos concepciones sobre la universidad como institución respecto a la forma como esta es asumida en sus relaciones con su entorno, con la sociedad en la cual se encuentra inmersa. El segundo se ocupa de las posturas de la pertinencia y el rendimiento social, y de sus implicaciones.
