dc.description	A partir de 1950, fecha en que se realizó el quinto censo de población en Costa Rica, comenzó a tomar importancia la cartografía censal. Poco antes también se iniciaba la cartografía básica del país por medio del Instituto Geográfico Nacional. Antes de aquel año ningún censo ni ninguna otra actividad de carácter estadístico, contó con material cartográfico especializado para su realización. Asimismo, poco se sabía de las superficies y configuración de la división territorial administrativa. Se incluyen aquí con carácter provisional los mapas y los valores de superficie a nivel de provincia, cantón y distrito, de acuerdo con los datos más avanzados del Instituto Geográfico Nacional, con los cuales los investigadores podrán analizar y comparar la información estadística socioeconómica a las correspondientes divisiones político-administrativas.
dc.description	Starting in 1950, the date on which the fifth population census was carried out in Costa Rica, census cartography began to gain importance. Shortly before, the basic cartography of the country was also started through the National Geographic Institute. Before that year, no census or any other statistical activity had specialized cartographic material to carry it out. Likewise, little was known about the surfaces and configuration of the administrative territorial division. The maps and surface values at the province, canton and district levels are included here on a provisional basis, according to the most advanced data from the National Geographic Institute, with which the researchers will be able to analyze and compare the socioeconomic statistical information to the corresponding political-administrative divisions.
