This article aims to investigate how the absence of the Romani People history and culture in the Spanish educational curriculum affects the self-esteem and racial esteem that Roma people have of themselves. Difference between self-esteem and racial esteem has been addressed, information has been collected regarding the situation of Roma students in schools and interviews have been conducted with seven Roma people from Madrid, the Valencian Community and Castilla y León. The sample includes four women and three men, aged between 12 and 35 years. Four of them being under 20 years old and each one studying in a different public center. The methodological approach used in this work is the critical communicative approach. The results obtained indicate that the racial esteem of Roma people could be being negatively affected by the ignorance of the history that precedes us as a group. Other factors that positively affect said racial self-esteem have been found.El presente artículo pretende indagar en cómo afecta la ausencia de la cultura y la historia del Pueblo Gitano en el currículum educativo español en la autoestima y la estima racial que tienen las personas gitanas sobre sí mismas. Para ello, se ha abordado la diferencia entre autoestima y estima racial, se ha recogido información relativa a la situación del alumnado gitano en las escuelas y se han realizado entrevistas a siete personas gitanas de Madrid, Comunidad Valenciana y Castilla y León. La muestra abarca cuatro mujeres y tres hombres, con edades comprendidas entre los 12 y los 35 años. Siendo cuatro de ellxs menores de 20 años y encontrándose cursando sus estudios cada uno en un centro público diferente. El enfoque metodológico utilizado en este trabajo es el enfoque comunicativo crítico. Los resultados obtenidos nos indican que la estima racial de las personas gitanas podría estar viéndose afectada de manera negativa por el desconocimiento de la historia que nos precede como pueblo. Así como se han podido encontrar otros factores que afectan de manera positiva a dicha estima racial.
