dc.description	In the wake of the events of 11 September 2001, airport security has become a magnet for societal fears and the target of enormous research and development spending. Airports are now living laboratories for security thinking and experimental systems, ranging from technological identification systems, such as those based on biometrics, to experimental systems designed to capture the most elusive aspects of human behaviour. This article is about the cuttingedge counter-terrorism measures in the European and North American airports. The aviation corridors between North America and Europe are crucial to the world’s economy and those routes have often been chosen for terrorist attacks. Today’s terrorists are understood to be prepared to die during attacks that aim to maximize fatalities, thus many security officers are quick to reflect on their roles and contemplate ways to innovate. Therefore, beyond the security promised by high-tech solutions there remains an enduring respect for the skilled senses of officers and the ‘art’ of hunting dangerous persons.	en-US
dc.description	En el contexto de los eventos ocurridos el 11 de septiembre de 2001, la seguridad aeroportuaria se ha constituido en un imán para los temores de la sociedad y el objetivo de numerosas investigaciones y de gastos de desarrollo. Los aeropuertos constituyen laboratorios vivos para el pensamiento sobre la seguridad y los sistemas experimentales, que van desde los sistemas tecnológicos de identificación, como aquellos basados en la biométrica, hasta los sistemas experimentales diseñados para captar aspectos elusivos al comportamiento humano. Este artículo aborda las medidas innovadoras del contraterrorismo en aeropuertos europeos y norteamericanos. Los corredores de aviación entre Norteamérica y Europa son cruciales para la economía mundial y esas rutas frecuentemente han sido escogidas por los ataques terroristas. Se entiende que los terroristas contemporáneos están preparados para morir durante los ataques, cuya finalidad es maximizar las víctimas, por lo cual muchos oficiales de seguridad reflexionan sobre sus roles y contemplan maneras de innovar. Por ende, más allá de la seguridad que prometen las soluciones de alta tecnología se genera un respeto duradero por los entrenados sentidos de los oficiales y por el “arte “ de cazar personas peligrosas. Este ensayo describe esos sentidos entrenados de los oficiales. Este es un registro etnográfico que inicia una historia cultural de la detección, de lo que es “normal y lo que “anormal”, y de como la vida misma ha sido captada por la mirada de la seguridad.	es-ES
