Durante los últimos cinco años, América Latina y el Caribe ha sido testigo de dos procesos casi simultáneos que han marcado un cambio en el escenario regional: el giro a la derecha de los gobiernos latinoamericanos y un reajuste de la proyección estadounidense hacia la región. Como consecuencia, tiene lugar un peligroso alineamiento político en torno a posiciones muy conservadoras entre los liderazgos regionales y el gobierno estadounidense. El artículo aborda el reajuste en la proyección de Estados Unidos hacia América Latina y el Caribe, con énfasis en lo que respecta a la construcción de una propuesta económica para la región, como parte de su disputa geopolítica con China, y en los cambios experimentados en el panorama regional de los grupos asociativos como resultado del cambio en la correlación de fuerzas políticas.
