Los asentamientos indígenas originarios de las Antillas y las reducciones posteriores introducidas por los españoles, constituyen un tema de interés para el estudio del urbanismo hispanoamericano por tratarse de una forma de sometimiento de la naciente sociedad colonial. El autor analiza este proceso en la Isla de Cuba durante el siglo XVI a partir de los testimonios históricos de los cronistas de Indias y otros documentos de la época.
The original Indigenous settlements from the West Indies and the subsequent reductions introduced by the Spaniards, are a subject of interest for the study of Hispanic-American urbanism as it is a form of subjugation by the emerging colonial society. The author analyzes this process on the island of Cuba during the 16th century from the historical testimonies of the chroniclers of the Indies and other documents of the time.
