dc.description	The Security Council is the cornerstone of the international security architecture. This body of the United Nations system has the central mission of ensuring the “maintenance of international peace and security.” Since its creation, it reflected the balance of power in the post-war period, endowing the victors of the Second World War with the status of permanent members with the power of veto in Council decisions, which ensured them a lasting leading role in the international system. During more than seven decades after the creation of the Security Council, the world has experienced profound transformations, giving rise to emerging powers that increasingly occupy a more significant role on the international stage. Faced with these new realities, the Security Council has remained unchanged, despite the numerous demands for reforms made by many States. When analyzing the economic, demographic and military indicators of the permanent members (United States, China, Russia, United Kingdom and France) in comparison with the member countries of the so-called G-4 (Brazil, India, Japan and Germany) it can be determined that the contemporary balance of power is not fully reflected in the current structure of the Security Council. These emerging powers should acquire permanent member status to increase the Council’s legitimacy and its ability to effectively represent global interests.	en-US
dc.description	El Consejo de Seguridad constituye la piedra angular de la arquitectura de seguridad internacional. Este órgano del sistema de Naciones Unidas posee la misión central de asegurar el “mantenimiento de la paz y seguridad internacionales”. Desde su creación constituyó el reflejo del equilibrio de poder del periodo de posguerra, dotando a los vencedores de la segunda guerra mundial del estatus de miembros permanentes con poder de veto en las decisiones del Consejo, lo que les aseguró un rol protagónico en el sistema internacional de forma duradera. Durante estas más de siete décadas después de la creación del Consejo de Seguridad el mundo ha experimentado profundas transformaciones dando lugar al surgimiento de potencias emergentes que cada vez ocupan un papel más significativo en el escenario internacional. Frente a estas nuevas realidades, el Consejo de Seguridad ha permanecido inalterable, a pesar de las numerosas demandas de reformas que han formulado muchos Estados. Al analizar los indicadores económicos, demográficos y militares de los miembros permanentes (Estados Unidos, China, Rusia, Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña e Irlanda del Norte y Francia) en comparación con los países miembros del denominado G-4 (Brasil, India, Japón y Alemania) se puede determinar que el equilibrio de poder contemporáneo no se ve reflejado de manera completa en la actual estructura del Consejo de Seguridad. Estas potencias emergentes deben adquirir el estatus de miembros permanentes para aumentar la legitimidad del Consejo y su capacidad de representar de forma efectiva los intereses globales.	es-ES
