dc.description	Theodor W. Adorno's position in relation to jazz is the subject of a discussion that has been going on for decades. Contrary to the understanding of jazz as an artistically elaborate protest music, Adorno took it as the clearest example of the harmful effects of the commodification of culture. Since then, it has become common to rate his interpretation as prejudiced and elitist. To respond to such criticisms, we start from the hypothesis that the critics of the Adornian work tend to ignore the specific type of music to which the author directed his argument, prior to the profound transformations that jazz presented from the second half of the 20th century. Thus, we will analyze the Weimar Republic’s music scene, emphasizing the historical determinations of its argument, as well as its limits.	en-US
dc.description	A posição de Theodor W. Adorno em relação ao jazz é objeto de uma discussão que se arrasta há décadas. Contrário à compreensão do jazz como uma música de protesto artisticamente elaborada, Adorno tomou-o como o exemplo mais nítido dos efeitos nocivos da mercantilização da cultura. Desde então, tornou-se comum taxar sua intepretação como preconceituosa e elitista. Para responder a tais críticas, partimos da hipótese que o comentário à obra adorniana tende a ignorar o tipo específico de música ao qual o autor direcionou sua crítica, anterior às profundas transformações que o jazz sofreu a partir da segunda metade do séc. XX. Assim, iremos nos debruçar sobre a cena musical da República de Weimar, enfatizando as determinações históricas de seu argumento, tal como seus limites.	pt-BR
