This paper aims to demonstrate that José de Alencar was an attentive reader of Victor Hugo and that he established intertextual dialogues with him in some of his novels and plays.O presente artigo, como sugere o título, tem como objetivo demonstrar que José de Alencar foi leitor assíduo de Victor Hugo e que estabeleceu com ele diálogos intertextuais em alguns de seus romances e peças teatrais.
