This article aims to bring together the poetics of Victor Hugo and Castro Alves from the attempt to understand their religious place, around the presence of visions, the idea of mission, and of what Paul Bénichou defined as a “modern poetic priesthood.” It also discusses some of the translations undertaken by the Brazilian poet.Este artigo pretende aproximar as poéticas de Victor Hugo e Castro Alves a partir da tentativa de compreensão de seu lugar religioso, em torno da presença de visões, da ideia de missão e do que Paul Bénichou definiu como um “sacerdócio poético moderno”. Discute, além disso, alguns caminhos das traduções empreendidas pelo poeta brasileiro.
