dc.description	The edition and publication of letters of writers have been intensified in the last decades. On one hand, this is due to the fact that the letters cause an impression of reality, thus constituting a way to rebuild the identity of great authors. On the other hand, by enabling the access to the writer’s universe the letters are valuable because they present themselves as a means of understanding the relationship between biography and work. However, we have to recognize that the letters are the discursive products of their authors, who use strategies in order to achieve certain effects of meaning. This article considers the letters as linguistic products, and based on the Lacanian theory, it investigates Caio Fernando’s process of identity creation from the compilation Letters. The intention is to demonstrate how, for the writer, the letters represent, on one hand, a kind of monopoly of his image, and on the other hand, according to the thought of Jacques Derrida, a way to subscribe himself to the literary history. In order to understand how the author builds an image of the self, this article examines the different strategies employed by the sender in order to create an “effect of reality”.	en-US
dc.description	A edição e publicação de cartas de escritores têm se intensificado nas últimas décadas. Por um lado, isso se deve ao fato de as correspondências promoverem uma impressão de verdade, constituindo, assim, uma forma de reconstituir a identidade de grandes autores. Por outro, ao possibilitarem o acesso ao universo do escritor, as cartas ganham destaque por se apresentarem como um meio de compreender a relação entre biografia e obra. Entretanto, é preciso reconhecer que as correspondências são produtos discursivos de seus emissores, que se valem de estratégias a fim de atingir determinados efeitos de sentido. Este artigo considera as cartas como produtos linguísticos e, a partir da teoria lacaniana, investiga o processo de criação identitária de Caio Fernando Abreu a partir da coletânea Cartas. Com isso, pretende-se demonstrar como, para o escritor, as cartas representam, por um lado, uma espécie de monopólio de sua imagem, e, por outro, de acordo com o pensamento de Jacques Derrida, uma forma de inscrever-se na história literária. A fim de se compreender como o autor edifica uma imagem de si, este artigo analisa diversas estratégias empregadas pelo remetente a fim de criar um “efeito de verdade”.	pt-BR
