This paper presents a contribution to the analysis of youth literacy and adult method "Yes I can" (Yo, sí puedo) developed in Cuba in 1999 and adopted in almost 30 countries, especially in Latin America. In Brazil the MST - Landless Workers Movement held a local adaptation and has been using this method in their areas of action since 2007. Although this broad coverage, there are few studies on the theoretical foundations of this method. In a preliminary analysis we can identify links with the historical-cultural theory developed by Vygotsky and collaborators, as well as elements of the thinking of Paulo Freire. Further analysis of these fundamentals is a key challenge for an intentional adoption and use of the method and could contribute to its improvement. New methods like this can be a great help to support public policies and actions of civil society organizations to accelerate the reduction of illiteracy among youth and adults in Brazil.

Este artículo contribuye al análisis del método de alfabetización de jóvenes y adultos "Yo, sí puedo", elaborado en Cuba en 1999 y adoptado en casi 30 países, especialmente de América Latina. En Brasil el MST - Movimiento de los Trabajadores Rurales Sin Tierra realizó una adaptación local y ha utilizado dicho método junto a sus bases desde 2007. A pesar de su alcance, hay pocos estudios sobre los fundamentos teóricos del método. En un análisis preliminar es posible notar sus vínculos con el Enfoque Histórico Cultural, desarrollado por Vygotski y colaboradores, además de elementos del pensamiento de Paulo Freire. La profundización en el análisis de esos fundamentos constituye un desafío fundamental para que la adopción y utilización del método sean hechas de manera más intencional, además de contribuir para su perfeccionamiento. Nuevos métodos como este pueden ser de gran ayuda para subvencionar políticas públicas y acciones de la sociedad civil ordenada, que aceleren la reducción del analfabetismo entre jóvenes y adultos en Brasil.

Este artigo traz uma contribuição para a análise do método de alfabetização de jovens e adultos “Sim, eu posso” (Yo, sí puedo), elaborado em Cuba em 1999 e adotado em quase 30 países, especialmente da América Latina. No Brasil o MST - Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra realizou uma adaptação local e vem utilizando esse método junto às suas bases desde 2007. Embora tenha essa abrangência, há poucos estudos sobre os fundamentos teóricos desse método. Numa análise preliminar é possível perceber ligações com a teoria Histórico-Cultural, desenvolvida por Vygotski e colaboradores, além de elementos do pensamento de Paulo Freire. O aprofundamento da análise desses fundamentos se coloca como um desafio fundamental para que a adoção e a utilização do método sejam feitas de modo mais intencional, além de contribuir para o seu aperfeiçoamento. Novos métodos como esse podem ser de grande ajuda para subsidiar políticas públicas e ações da sociedade civil organizada, que acelerem a redução do analfabetismo entre jovens e adultos no Brasil.
