The article reviews the trajectory of the United States (US) engagement in Latin America, framing the area of ​​hemispheric security as the focus of the analysis. From a perspective that combines history and conjuncture, we identified two main logics of projecting US security interests over the region: the multi and the bilateralism. We associated these logics with the conjuncture and permeability of the countries of the region with the US agendas at different times, taking as reference documentary sources and current literature. Therefore, we have organized this article into four sections: In the first one, we highlighted the place of security in building US hegemony over the continent; then we briefly presented the main concepts employed in the analysis, such as Collective, Cooperative and Multidimensional Security. The third section summarizes the historical evolution of regional security cooperation and, finally, some final considerations on the subject are presented.  O presente artigo analisa o engajamento dos Estados Unidos da América (EUA) na América Latina, enquadrando como foco da análise o campo da segurança hemisférica. A partir de uma perspectiva que combina história e conjuntura, identificamos duas lógicas principais de projeção dos interesses de segurança estadunidenses sobre a região: o multi e o bilateralismo. Associamos tais lógicas à conjuntura e à permeabilidade dos países da região às agendas estadunidenses em diferentes momentos, tomando como referência fontes documentais e a literatura corrente. Assim sendo, organizamos o trabalho em quatro seções: Na primeira delas, destacamos o lugar da segurança na construção da hegemonia dos EUA sobre o continente; em seguida apresentamos de modo sucinto os principais conceitos empregados na análise, como as Seguranças Coletiva, Cooperativa e Multidimensional. A terceira seção sumariza a evolução histórica da cooperação regional em segurança e, por fim, são apresentadas algumas considerações finais sobre a temática.
