| dc.description | This article examines the representation of immigrants in the media discourse during 2017 and 2018 in Chile. Based on a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) applied to Publimetro, a free-circulation newspaper in the Chilean capital, this study does not reveal the openly aggressive representation of immigration but rather demonstrates that the daily press represents migrants as a collective of subjects that the State has to welcome, reinforcing the approach referred to public policy actions towards migrant communities and not their contributions to the receiving country. Therefore, the dominant use of representations of migrants only as receivers reinforces the stereotype of them as dependent on government resources. Similarly, the use of the specific term on a nationality refers primarily to Haitian residents, giving them a particular place in the terminology of migrants in the newspaper, turning skin color into a distinctive sign of migration in Chile. | en-US |
| dc.description | El presente artículo pretende auscultar cómo se ha representado al migrante en el discurso mediático durante los años 2017 y 2018 en Chile. A partir de un Análisis Crítico del Discurso (ACD) aplicado a Publimetro, un diario de circulación gratuita en la capital chilena, este estudio no revela la representación abiertamente negativa de la migración, sino demuestra que la prensa diaria representa a los inmigrantes como un colectivo de sujetos a los que el Estado tiene que acoger, reforzando el enfoque referido a las acciones de políticas públicas hacia las comunidades migrantes y no las contribuciones de éstas al país receptor. Por lo tanto, se concluye que el uso dominante de representaciones a los migrantes sólo como receptores, refuerza el estereotipo de ellos como dependientes de los recursos del gobierno. | es-ES |
