dc.description	This article analyzes the three main mining towns that predated and coexisted with the Chuquicamata mine and company town in the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries: Punta de Rieles, Placilla and Banco Drummond. The urban developments that emerged around copper mines as mining growth exploded in the last decades of the nineteenth century show how unique social dynamics developed in a rapidly restructured productive, labor, and sociocultural environment. Using descriptions of the settlements from the local press and writings from the period, this paper explores the tensions, regulations and resistance that ensued from interactions between the towns, the industrial mine and new company town, and the mining company.	en-US
dc.description	El artículo analiza los tres principales poblados mineros que antecedieron y coexistieron con el campamento y mina de Chuquicamata desde fines del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX: Punta de Rieles, Placilla y Banco Drummond. Paralelo al explosivo crecimiento de trabajos mineros desde las últimas décadas decimonónicas, la emergencia de urbanizaciones contiguas a las pertenencias cupríferas permite comprender cómo se articularon dinámicas sociales propias en un espacio productivo, laboral y sociocultural velozmente reestructurado. Con la descripción de los asentamientos, a través de la prensa local y escritos de la época, se profundizará en las tensiones, regulaciones y resistencias resultantes en la interacción entre los poblados, el nuevo campamento y yacimiento industrial y la sociedad minera.	es-ES
