This article focuses on the study of the celebration (1886) of the first birth centenary of Estanislao López, a federal leader of Argentina who was born in Santa Fe; as well as on the acts, cultural achievements and historiographical production linked to it. Evaluate which were the motives that led the political leadership of the province of Santa Fe to promote this tribute -considered as an "act of reparation, gratitude and justice" - was one of the main objectives of the research. To develop it, varied documentation was consulted including official publications, periodic sources and historiographical published and unpublished texts. Their analysis allowed noticing the operation started up by the nineteenth century political and intellectual elites in Santa Fe, in order to set in the collective memory the representation of Lopez as a supreme hero of the provincial past, holder of autonomy and federalism versus the centralism of Buenos Aires.
Este artículo se centra en el estudio de la celebración (1886) del primer centenario del nacimiento de un caudillo federal de Argentina, el santafesino Estanislao López, y de los actos, realizaciones culturales y producción historiográfica vinculados a ella. Evaluar cuáles fueron los móviles que guiaron a la dirigencia política de la provincia de Santa Fe a propiciar este homenaje –considerado como un “acto de reparación, gratitud y justicia”– constituyó uno de los principales objetivos de la investigación. Para desarrollarla se consultó variada documentación, entre la que cabe consignar publicaciones de carácter oficial, fuentes periódicas y textos historiográficos éditos e inéditos. Su análisis permitió advertir la operación puesta en marcha desde las elites políticas e intelectuales santafesinas decimonónicas, a fin de fijar en la memoria colectiva la representación de López como héroe máximo del pasado provincial, sostenedor de la autonomía y del federalismo frente al centralismo porteño.
