dc.description	This paper presents a potential periodization framework for the systematical study of the Spanish American Independence process, mainly that of New Granada. It approaches three fundamental issues: the crisis of the Spanish Monarchy; the birth and transformation of American autonomism and the subsequent insurgent independentism, and the rise of republican nationalism. This approach pays attention to the relevance of long duration historical precedents and gives interpretative importance to the problem of identity as well as individual leadership (Santander and Bolívar). Finally, this paper argues that the use of periodization goes beyond the methodological and should serve as the basis for a critique of the nationalist ideology and the Eurocentric paradigm, which prevent the construction of a totalizing Spanish American history.	en-US
dc.description	El presente artículo propone un posible esquema de periodización histórica para el estudio sistemático de las independencias hispanoamericanas, especialmente de la neogranadina. Para ello se aproxima a tres cuestiones fundamentales: la crisis de la monarquía hispánica; la irrupción y transformación del autonomismo americano y el posterior independentismo insurgente, y el surgimiento del nacionalismo republicano. Esta aproximación presta atención a la relevancia de antecedentes históricos de larga duración y otorga peso interpretativo al problema de la identidad y al liderazgo de individuos específicos (Santander y Bolívar). Finalmente, se argumenta que el uso de la periodización trasciende lo metodológico y que debe servir como base de la crítica de la ideología nacionalista y del paradigma eurocéntrico, que impiden la construcción de una historia hispanoamericana totalizante.	es-ES
