dc.description	This article deals with the teaching of engineering, from an institutional perspective, in Colombia through the political and economic factors that affected the School of Engineering of the National University. Due to political instability and budgetary restrictions, the academic offerings were limited and the survival of the School itself was threatened. This article points to the means through which the Colombian élite strengthened technology and relations with the state. The article also shows how the number and influence of engineers grew as a consequence of the opening of new networks of communication in Colombia.	en-US
dc.description	El presente artículo aborda la enseñanza de Ia ingeniería en Colombia, a partir de los factores políticos y económicos que afectaron la Escuela de Ingenieros de la Universidad Nacional, desde una perspectiva institucional. Observa que debido a la inestabilidad y las restricciones presupuestales, se limitaron las posibilidades académicas y se pusieron en peligro Ia supervivencia de las instituciones educativas. No obstante el estudio señala los mecanismos mediante los cuales la élite colombiana, orientó sus esfuerzos hacia la sofisticación técnica a pesar del estatismo. Explora igual¬mente las relaciones existentes con el Estado, durante la coyuntura entre el radicalismo liberal y el advenimiento de la Regeneración. Finalmente alude a la economía de exportación, como eje central que posibilitó la construcción de vías de comunicación, y el consecuente ascenso de los ingenieros.	es-ES
