The main goal of this research was to establish the economic viability of the production systems of four veredas of San Vicente de Chucurí, within the influence zone of the Proyecto Hidroeléctrico Sogamoso (Hydro-electric Project Sogamoso). Due to the perception of the producers of the region that the dam will cause changes in the microclimate of the zone, which may increase the diseases of the regional crops, thus to losses in the productivity of the productive systems, the need to develop a base line to determine the current economic viability of the production systems of the region, prior to the flooding of the dam. In order to do so, a sample of 37 production systems were taken to which an in-depth survey was applied. Based on the information obtained in the survey the production systems of the region were typified using multi-variable analysis. This analysis allowed us to establish that in the zone there are currently four types of production systems. Afterwards the qualitative characteristics of each one of these systems were set up, finally we determined the economic viability of the production systems. Currently, the four production systems are economically viable.
