dc.description	This article tries to explain the context in which the non-European immigrants’ rights movement emerged in Spain between the years 2000 and 2002. The study aims to understand (1) how immigration laws affected the development of the protests; (2) the impact of the administrative status of immigrants on protest’s practices and goals. Four research questions guide the work: Which events triggered the protests of immigrants in Spain in the period under consideration? What did the protesters claim and demand? In which way and by what means did protesters attempt to influence the immigration policy? How did the «irregular/illegal» categories, used by the Aznar government to define demonstrators, affect the development of the protests? To address these issues, the authors employ an analysis of the Spanish Immigration Law and political speeches about immigration. The article concludes that this struggle has been triggered by the administrative situation of the immigrants, which is key insofar as it reveals the structural logic of precariousness that underlies it.	en-US
dc.description	Este artículo explora el contexto de surgimiento del movimiento de protesta de inmigrantes extracomunitarios en España en el periodo 2000-2002, comprendiendo el impacto de las normas específicas para inmigrantes en la gestación y el desarrollo de las protestas, y la incidencia de la situación administrativa de los inmigrantes en los métodos y objetivos de las protestas. Se postulan las siguientes preguntas: ¿qué hechos desencadenaron las protestas de inmigrantes en España?, ¿cuáles fueron sus reclamos o reivindicaciones?, ¿de qué manera y a través de qué métodos se intentó incidir en la política sobre inmigración?, ¿cómo operó en el desarrollo de las protestas la categoría migratoria de irregulares-ilegales aplicada a los manifestantes por el entonces gobierno de José María Aznar? A partir de un enfoque metodológico cualitativo se usó la técnica de análisis documental, revisando especialmente normativas y discursos políticos. El artículo concluye que esta lucha ha sido desencadenada por la situación administrativa de los migrantes, que se vuelve trascendente en la medida en que revela la lógica estructural de precarización que la subyace.	es-ES
