| dc.description | During the twentieth century, Medellín, as other Colombian cities, experienced a remarkable population growth, which did not correspond with vegetative growth, but rather was the result of waves of immigrants arriving mainly from the villages of Antioquia. Newcomers saw an opportunity for personal progress, as the city was the economic, political, social and cultural epicenter of the region. The theory that violence and forced displacement was the main factor in the growth of Medellín is debated and contested in this article. The authors argue that the educational and employment opportunities offered by the city were much more meaningful to migrants. The research that supports this article used a case study to understand groups, institutions and individuals, establishing regularities and identifying peculiarities. The procedures used were data collection, data reduction, data analysis and the presentation of results, aimed at furthering understanding and answering research questions. | en-US |
| dc.description | Durante el siglo xx Medellín, al igual que las demás ciudades del país, experimentó un crecimiento extraordinario del número de sus habitantes, el cual no respondió exclusivamente a un crecimiento vegetativo de la población, sino a una oleada de inmigrantes llegados desde los pueblos de Antioquia, quienes vieron en la ciudad una alternativa para su progreso personal, ya que era el epicentro económico, político, social y cultural de la región. Este artículo afirma y argumenta que no fue la violencia y el desplazamiento producido por esta la principal causa de crecimiento de la ciudad de Medellín durante el siglo xx. Se sostiene que a la hora de inmigrar tuvo mayor significación la oferta educativa y laboral que brindó la ciudad durante el periodo de análisis. A partir del estudio de caso, se espera comprender los grupos, las instituciones o los individuos que se estudian, empleando la recolección de datos, la reducción de datos, el análisis de los mismos y la presentación de los resultados, que permitan establecer las regularidades e identificar las particularidades. | es-ES |
