“Civil War by Other Means”: Normative and Ideological Dimensions of Social Scientific and Historical Knowledge about the Colombian Armed Conflict

dc.description	The social-scientific analysis of the Colombian armed conflict has become a “civil continued war by other means”, which is due to the inevitable normative and ideological dimensions of the social and human sciences. These dimensions can be seen in some historical arguments about how to characterize and explain the violences and the armed conflict in Colombia, as well as in conflicting analyses of ex-president Uribe Velez’s “democratic security” policy. The article analyses the problem in light of the arguments of Alasdair MacIntyre and István Mészáros and concludes that, in order to avoid theoretical, normative and methodological arbitrariness in the social scientific and historical analysis of the Colombian conflict, it is necessary to engage the theoretical and normative bases of our analyses in systematic dialogue with moral philosophy.	en-US
dc.description	El análisis científico-social e histórico del conflicto armado colombiano se ha convertido en un tipo de “guerra civil continuada por otros medios”, lo cual tiene que ver con las inevitables dimensiones normativas e ideológicas de las ciencias sociales y humanas. Estas dimensiones se demuestran en algunos argumentos históricos sobre cómo caracterizar y explicar las violencias y el conflicto armado en Colombia, y en análisis encontrados de la política de “seguridad democrática” del expresidente Álvaro Uribe Vélez. Se analiza el problema a la luz de los argumentos de Alasdair MacIntyre e István Mészáros y, mediante el análisis hermenéutico, se concluye que para evitar la arbitrariedad teórica, normativa y metodológica en el análisis científicosocial e histórico del conflicto colombiano, es necesario poner las bases teóricas y normativas de nuestros análisis en diálogo sistemático con la filosofía moral.	es-ES
