This article presents an approach to the intellectuals concerned with homeless children or “institución gamin” in Colombia between 1960 and 1990, by focusing on two Colombian psychiatrists in particular: Francisco Cobos and José Gutiérrez. The former, as a state intellectual, and the latter, as a critic, highlight, on the one hand, the political and epistemic positionings played out in the context of the emergence of the contemporary conception of childhood in Colombia; on the other, the significant bifurcations and tensions in the hegemonic imaginary of childhood that has prevailed since the nineteenth century until the present day.
El artículo presenta un acercamiento a los intelectuales que se preocuparon la infancia en situación de calle o “institución gamín” en Colombia entre 1960 y 1990. Para ello, se analiza el papel de dos psiquiatras colombianos: Francisco Cobos y José Gutiérrez. El primero como intelectual de Estado y el segundo como intelectual visibilizan algunas tensiones, posicionamientos políticos y epistémicos que se vivieron y disputaron en la emergencia de la concepción contemporánea de la infancia en Colombia, mostrando importantes bifurcaciones y tensiones en el imaginario hegemónico sobre el tema que se viene instalando desde el siglo XIX hasta el día de hoy.
O articulo apresenta uma abordagem dos intelectuais que se preocuparam com a infância em situação de rua, ou instituição “gamín”, na Colômbia, entre 1960 e 1990. Para tanto, analisa-se o papel de dois psiquiatras colombianos, Francisco Cobos e José Gutiérrez. O primeiro, como intelectual de Estado, e o segundo, como intelectual crítico, tornam visíveis algumas tensões e posições políticas e epistêmicas vividas e disputadas na emergência da concepção contemporânea de infância na Colombia, trazendo à luz importantes bifurcações e tensões no imaginário hegemônico sobre o tema que se foi instalando desde o século XIX até os dias de hoje.
