dc.description	This paper analyzes, from the perspective of the social history of writing, three of the most relevant 18th century Spanish treatises on the art of calligraphy. It shows that this century produced rich reflections on the ways handwriting had been taught hitherto in the Spanish empire, and reveals the interest that different sectors had to standardize writing, promoting a closer understanding of both the criteria that sought to regulate the practices of the period and of the techniques and specific gestures that delineated the social access to this aspect of literacy.	en-US
dc.description	Este artículo analiza, desde la historia social de la escritura, tres de los tratados en español más importantes del siglo XVIII sobre el arte de la caligrafía. El objetivo es mostrar que, en esa centuria, se registró una abundante reflexión sobre las formas en las que hasta entonces se había enseñado a escribir en el imperio hispánico. Dicha reflexión revela el interés que diferentes grupos sociales tuvieron por uniformar la escritura y permite captar tanto los criterios que aspiraban normar las prácticas del periodo, como las técnicas y los gestos concretos que guiaron el acceso social a esta faceta de la alfabetización.	es-ES
dc.description	A partir de uma abordagem centrada na história social da escrita, o presente artigo analisa três dos tratados em espanhol mais importantes do século XVIII sobre a arte da caligrafia. O objetivo é mostrar que, neste século, registrou-se uma ampla reflexão sobre as formas que, até então, eram utilizadas para se ensinar a escrever no império hispânico. Esta reflexão revela o interesse que diferentes grupos sociais tiveram em padronizar a escrita, permitindo identificar tanto os critérios que visavam normalizar as práticas do período, como as técnicas e os gestos concretos que nortearam o acesso social a esta faceta da alfabetização.	pt-BR
