Strengthening reading and writing in times of pandemic. An approach to its practical reality

dc.description	The present study focuses on understanding the problems that students have to develop their speaking and listening skills in the English language, considering that the acquisition of a new language is a highly complex process that requires greater attention and care on the part of teachers. The purpose of the study was to analyze the strengthening of “speaking and listening” skills with students from a private educational unit in the central region of Ecuador. The Cambridge KET (Key English Test) exam was used for upper basic education students, eighth, ninth and tenth grade students participated. The results show that the pedagogical intervention process was not very significant due to the peculiarities of the pandemic that radically altered the learning environments and teaching-learning processes. It is concluded that the interest in learning a second language continues to be an activity of little importance for students and that it has strong pedagogical limitations for its application by the teacher.	en-US
dc.description	El presente estudio se enfoca en comprender la problemática que tienen los estudiantes para desarrollar sus habilidades del habla y escucha del idioma Inglés, considerando que la adquisición de un nuevo idioma es un proceso de gran complejidad que requiere mayor atención y cuidado por parte de los docentes. El propósito del estudio fue analizar el fortalecimiento de las habilidades “hablar y escuchar” con los estudiantes de una Unidad educativa privada de la región central del Ecuador. Se utilizó el examen Cambridge KET (Key English Test) para estudiantes de educación básica superior, participaron estudiantes de octavo, noveno y décimo año. Los resultados demuestran que el proceso de intervención pedagógica fue poco significativo debido a las particularidades propias de la pandemia que alteró radicalmente los ambientes de aprendizaje y procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Se concluye que el interés por aprender una segunda lengua sigue siendo una actividad de poca importancia para los estudiantes y que tiene fuertes limitaciones pedagógicas para su aplicación por parte del docente.	es-ES
