dc.description	This article analyzes how the hygienist Miguel Arango, a mulatto doctor from the Caribbean region, in the midst of the debate on race during the first half of the Colombian twentieth century – a debate full of negative and pessimistic representations about the Caribbean coast – proposed, contrary to the central theses of Miguel Jiménez López, a theory in defense of the Atlantic coast (read Caribbean Colombian). Although Arango’s works were presented in the 1930s and do not refer to the debate, the answers to the questions in the essays mentioned here not only introduced positive representations about the region and its inhabitants, but also became the answer of a Caribbean to those who used a negative and hegemonic discourse about what we call the Colombian Caribbean.	en-US
dc.description	En este artículo se analiza cómo el higienista Miguel Arango, médico mulato de la región Caribe, en medio del debate sobre la raza durante la primera mitad del siglo XX colombiano -debate cargado de representaciones negativas y pesimistas sobre la costa Caribe- planteó, contrario a las tesis centrales de Miguel Jiménez López, una teoría en defensa del litoral Atlántico (léase Caribe colombiano). Aunque los trabajos de Arango se presentaron en los años treinta y no hacen referencia al debate, las respuestas a las preguntas en los ensayos aquí mencionados, no sólo introducían representaciones positivas sobre la región y sus habitantes, sino que, también, se convirtieron en la respuesta de un caribeño a quienes utilizaban un discurso negativo y hegemónico sobre lo que denominamos el Caribe colombiano.	es-ES
