dc.description	The Awá are one of the few still isolated indigenous people in Brazil: apart from some groups attracted and settled by FUNAI in "villages" installed in the vicinities of its former Postos Indígenas, the Awa come refusing systematically to yield to the attractions offered by the contact fronts that since 1913, the SPI and its ersatz, FUNAI, established in its territory. In this paper we discuss, focusing the consequences of the latest episodes of contact with isolated Awá groups, the contradictions between current FUNAI/CGIIRC’s policies and practices and the institution’s official speech on its policy towards "isolated and recent contacted" indigenous groups, adopted in 1987.	en-US
dc.description	Os Awá são um dos poucos povos indígenas ainda isolados no Brasil: afora alguns grupos atraídos e assentados pela FUNAI em “aldeias” instaladas nas proximidades de seus antigos Postos Indígenas, os Awá vêm recusando-se sistematicamente a ceder aos atrativos oferecidos pelas frentes de contato que, desde 1913, o SPI e sua sucedânea, a FUNAI, estabeleceram em seu território. Discutimos, neste trabalho, com vistas às conseqüências dos episódios mais recentes de contato com grupos Awá isolados, as contradições entre as atuais políticas e práticas da FUNAI/CGIIRC o discurso oficial da instituição a respeito de sua política para com grupos indígenas “isolados e de recente contato”, adotada a partir de 1987.	pt-BR
