dc.description In the field of non-verbal communication of emotions, a discussion remains regarding the universality of expressions of emotions and the cultural effects on these expressions. Presently two theories attempt to explain this phenomenon: the Neuroculture theory and Dialectic theory. Both of them focus on the explanation of non-verbal communication of emotion, Neurocultural theory focuses on the universality of emotions and their expression, while Dialectic theory focuses on the cultural differences in expressing and decoding emotions. The purpose of this study was to explore in-group advantage within a culture. Through a quasiexperimental design, 107 participants were asked to identify the emotions expressed in 42 stimuli presented in three different formats. The results of this study show the existence of in-group advantage in women and youths. These results give valuable information to the effect of culture on non-verbal communication of emotions. en-US
