Two studies were conducted to explore the effect of vary the spatial distance between the elements of the supplementary function on effective adjustment. In the first study, eight rats were exposed to experimental conditions that were characterized by the manipulation of the spatial distance between the response lever and the set light-water dispenser. For Group 1 the spatial distance between devices was increasing through phases, while in Group 2 it was decreasing. In the second study eight rats were subjected to conditions similar to those of Experiment 1 with the difference that in this case, the spatial distance was varied between the water dispenser and the light-lever set. The results suggest that increasing the spatial distance between the elements of supplementary function affects the development of more effective adjustment but does not affect the execution after the subject have succeeded in producing a high percentage of contextualizing stimulus (water), this independently of where the lever or the water dispenser is installed.Se realizaron dos estudios con el propósito de explorar el efecto de variar la distancia espacial entre los elementos que integran la función suplementaria sobre el ajuste efectivo. En el primer estudio ocho ratas fueron expuestas a condiciones experimentales en las que se varió la distancia espacial entre la palanca de respuesta y el conjunto luzbebedero. Para el Grupo 1 la distancia espacial entre dispositivos fue aumentando a través de las fases, mientras que para el Grupo 2 ésta fue disminuyendo. En el segundo estudio ocho ratas fueron sometidas a condiciones similares a las del Experimento 1 con la diferencia de que en este caso se varió la distancia espacial del bebedero en relación al conjunto luz-palanca. Los resultados sugieren que aumentar la distancia espacial entre los elementos que integran la función suplementaria afecta el desarrollo del ajuste efectivo más no influye sobre la ejecución una vez que los sujetos han logrado producir un porcentaje elevado de estímulos contextualizadores (aguas), esto independientemente del lugar en el que se instale la palanca o el bebedero.
