| dc.description | Capacity of new knowledge acquisition and its transmission for the next generations through symbols is the base of the culture. Understanding culture as values, beliefs and attitudes that share a group and are transmitted generation to generation, is one of the main determinants of the human behavior. Culture can be analyzed by Individualism-Collectivism syndrome proposed by Triandis and its horizontal vertical bifurcation. That construct help us to study the importance that the culture and individuals gives to personal goals over group goals and vice versa. Based on social importance and impact of the construct, the objective of the present research was to know the grade of Individualism-Collectivism and the effects of population density, gender and formal education in itself. 144 males and 202 females from three different cities of Guanajuato State (Mexico) participate in this study. Results show upper grade of individualism and horizontal components of the construct. We found differences between cities, gender and higher education. Results were discussed by density of population of each city and its impact in the personal relationships; by gender roles and the impact of the formal education has in distance towards the traditional culture, taking to the immersed individuals in this socio-cultural group to guide their self, more by means of norms and individual values, than by those that favor the group. | en-US |
| dc.description | La base de la cultura es la capacidad de adquirir nuevos conocimientos y transmitirlos a futuras generaciones a través de símbolos. La cultura entendida como un conjunto de valores, creencias, actitudes, que comparte un grupo de personas y que son transmitidas de generación a generación, es uno de los principales determinantes del comportamiento; y ésta se puede analizar a través del Individualismo-Colectivismo y su bifurcación horizontal y vertical. Este constructo nos ayuda a estudiar la importancia que le da la cultura y el individuo a la persona sobre los objetivos e intereses del grupo o viceversa. Partiendo de la importancia e impacto social que tiene el constructo, la presente investigación tuvo como objetivo conocer el grado de Individualismo-Colectivismo y el efecto de la densidad de población, el sexo y la escolaridad sobre el mismo. Para ello se contó con la participación de 144 hombres y 202 mujeres de tres ciudades del Estado de Guanajuato (México). Los resultados reportan un mayor índice de individualismo, y de los componentes horizontales del constructo. Se encontraron diferencias significativas entre ciudades, sexo y nivel educativo. Los resultados se discuten de acuerdo a la densidad de población de cada ciudad y del tipo de relaciones que se dan en ellas, de los roles de género y del impacto que la educación formal tiene en el alejamiento de la cultura tradicional, llevando a los individuos inmersos en dichos grupos socioculturales a guiarse más por medio de normas y valores individuales, más que por aquellos que favorezcan al grupo. | es-ES |
